Scots Fall to Swarthmore 59-49

Grantz Records Career-High 13 Points

ATLANTA - Maryville's offensive struggles continued Sunday as the Scots fell to Swarthmore 59-49 on Day 2 of the Emory Classic in Atlanta, Georgia.
 
After shooting 25 percent from the field on Saturday, Maryville went just 16-of-59 on Sunday, good for a mark of 27.1 percent. The Scots' struggles from beyond the arc continued as well, shooting just 5-of-21 from three.
 
While the Scots struggled against the Swarthmore defense, they continued to excel from the charity stripe. Maryville went 12-of-13 from the free throw line, led by a perfect 4-for-4 day from Emily Allen.
 
Gracyn Grantz came off the bench to lead Maryville in scoring with a career-high 13 points. She made three of MC's five three-point buckets in the contest, shooting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
 
Cadence Stoner led the Scots in rebounding, picking up a career-high boards. She tied with Ella Haney for second in scoring with eight points. Stoner was a perfect 2-of-2 from the field while sinking 4-of-5 attempts from the free throw line.
 
Maryville kept the game close until the fourth quarter. After falling behind 18-15 in the first quarter, the Scots outscored the Garnet 16-15 in the second and 12-11 in the third. The Scots trailed just 44-43 heading into the final 10 minutes of play. The fourth quarter was all Swarthmore though, as the Scots were just 2-of-13 from the field and were outscored 15-6.
 
27 of Maryville's 49 points were from the bench, compared to just 16 points of such from Swarthmore. The Scots also held the advantage in second-chance points, outscoring the Garnet 19-11 despite being beaten 23-16 on offensive rebounds.
 
The Scots are back in action Saturday for their third tournament in as many weekends. They'll travel to Lexington, Kentucky for the Transy Classic. They'll face off against the host, and defending National Champion, Transylvania Saturday and then either Alma or Wisconsin Lutheran on Sunday.
