Rowan Women's Basketball Battles Past Eastern, 63-50

GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan evened its record to 2-2 with a 63-50 win over visiting Eastern Saturday afternoon at Esbjornson Gymnasium.

Kate Herlihy totaled 22 points and five steals, both game highs. Eliana Santana added 10 points, eight rebounds and a personal-best four steals while Kristina Johnson kicked in 11 points.

Johnson's triple late in the fourth helped the Profs restore a double-digit lead en route to the victory.

Wynter Bess netted 18 points off the bench for Eastern, who also got 11 points from Jeriyah Johnson and 10 points and 11 boards from Taryn Woodson.

Seven lead changes took place in the first quarter that saw the Eagles take a 15-14 lead. Rowan would open the second on a 9-2 run. After a three from Bess get Eastern within one (23-22), Johnson completed a three-point play after leaner in the paint drew a foul just over midway through the stanza. The Profs held a 32-26 edge at the half.

A 7-0 home spurt to kickstart the third looked to give Rowan some breathing room. Herlihy's three made it 39-26. Eastern hung around in that third and faced a 47-38 Rowan lead heading into the final quarter.

With 1:02 remaining and leading by nine, Johnson drained a trifecta from the top of the arc to give the Profs a 61-49 advantage that helped cement the outcome.

Rowan will begin NJAC play on Tuesday as Stockton visits Glassboro in a conference matchup starting at 5:30 p.m.
