RECAP: Women’s Basketball opens season with win over Bryn Mawr, 60-54


ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — First-year Lexi Miller scored a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bard College women's basketball team to a season-opening win against Bryn Mawr, 60-54 at Stevenson Athletic Center. 

Bard (1-0) scored at least 14 points in each quarter, and took control during a big third quarter where the team scored 17 and held Bryn Mawr (1-1) to only eight points. The Raptors opened the first quarter with a 13-9 lead, but the Owls went on a 9-1 run to end the quarter 18-14. 

The second quarter saw the Raptors trailing by seven with less than three minutes left, but Bard went on an 8-0 run to reduce the deficit, and the teams went into halftime with the Owls leading 33-29. In the third quarter, the Raptors tied the game, 40-40, at 1:53 and went on a 6-1 run to take a five-point lead and never let the Owls tie the game or take the lead back in the fourth quarter. 

Bard had three players with double-digit points, with Miller leading the team, shooting 6-of-7 from the field, and adding two blocks, two assists and a steal. Sophomore Shirley Dong nearly had a double-double with 13 points and nine assists. Dong added three rebounds and three steals while going a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Senior Mae Redmond had 11 points, four rebounds and added a steal and assist. Junior Maggy Peyton was also close on a double-double with nine points, nine rebounds, three assists, and a steal. 

First-years Aislynn DixonJessica Martin and Erin Tobes all scored their first collegiate points. Dixon had four points, three rebounds, and two steals. Martin totaled nine points while shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Tobes scored two points, a steal, and grabbed a rebound. 

Bard will travel to SUNY-Delhi next Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
