RPI Hosts St. Lawrence in First Round Playoff Game

TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team finished the regular season in fourth place in the Liberty League standings and earned the right to host fifth-seeded St. Lawrence University in a first round playoff game on Tuesday at 5:30pm at East Campus Arena. RPI enters the contest with a 13-12 overall record and a 10-8 league mark, while the Saints are 13-11 and 9-9.

The Engineers, who most recently hosted a first round game in 2019-20, have won four straight games, including a victory over St. Lawrence. The two teams met on February 10 in Canton with RPI winning 53-45 and on January 14 in Troy, a 68-56 Rensselaer win.

Seniors Nicole DaPra, Heather Converse, and Lolo Reynolds lead the Engineers, who average 59.9 points per game while allowing 57.0. In addition to its 2.9 edge in scoring, RPI has a 3.4 advantage in rebounding (42.1 to 38.7) and a 3.5 postive margin in assists (13.8 to 10.3).

DaPra (Newtown, CT / Sandy Hook), a guard, is second on the team with 8.8 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per contest and 61 assists. She also has 26 steals, which is third, while averaging a team-high 30.1 minutes per game. She scored in double figures in 10 games, including a season-high 20 points twice, and had double-digits in rebounds seven times, including a season-high 17 on January 13 vs. Clarkson University.

A forward, Converse (Woodstock, CT / Woodstock Academy) averages 8.0 points and a team-high 8.0 rebounds in 24.0 minutes. She is first on the Engineers in field goal percentage (46.9%) and blocked shots (19). She also has 25 assists and 25 steals. Converse has registered double figures in points eight times and 10-or-more rebounds in 10. She has five double-doubles of points and rebounds, including a 21-14 effort at SUNY Delhi on November 22.

Reynolds (San Diego, CA / Rancho Bernardo), a guard, is first on the team in assists with 81 and steals with 38 while averaging 28:45, which is second. She averages 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds as a starter in all 25 games. Her season-high in assists is six and her most steals is five, both of which came against Clarkson on February 11 and January 13, respectively.

RPI, which is coached by John Greene, is without leading scorer Ashlyn O'Neil (Amsterdam, NY / Scotia-Glenville). The senior guard, who averages 10.6 points per game, recently departed for Argentina, where she is studying as part of Rensselaer's architecture program.

St. Lawrence, which averages 64.1 points per game while giving up 59.8, has two double-digit scorers, led by Olivia Middleton's 12.8 points per game. The senior guard also paces the squad in assists with 83 and steals with 34. Jackie Malley, a first-year guard, is second in scoring average at 10.8 points per contest.

The winner of the game advances to face Ithaca College (22-3; 17-1), the top seed, in the semifinals on Friday night at 6pm in Ithaca, N.Y. The final is Sunday at the highest remaining seed of the six-team tournament.
