WOOSTER, Ohio - February 11, 2023 - A huge third quarter and commanding finish lifted Hiram to another conference victory over Wooster, 69-59, on Saturday afternoon at Timken Gymnasium.

The Terriers outscored the Fighting Scots, 20-7, in the third quarter alone to erase a 6-point halftime deficit. It's another instance of the team rallying in the second half; it also recently outscored Oberlin, Denison and Ohio Wesleyan in the second half of those respective games.

Brooke Hickman had another dominant effort, posting her 2nd-most points in a game this season (23) and her most rebounds (17) and offensive rebounds (10) in any career game. Maddie Rakestraw tied a season-high with 16 points and Taylor Valaitis tallied 14 points.

Hiram has now won 13 of its last 14 games against Wooster dating back to the 2016-17 season. The team could be as high as a No. 5 seed in the conference tournament with three games remaining on the regular-season schedule.

Wooster gained the early advantage thanks to 56% shooting in the first half (14-25) and 4 three-pointers. Rakestraw scored 8 of her 16 points in the half, including a pair of 3-pt FG to keep Hiram within striking distance.

Hickman took over in the second half, scoring 17 points to get her team back in front. The Terriers closed the third quarter on a 12-0 run to take a 50-43 lead.

More of the same followed in the fourth quarter, with Hiram closing the game on a 9-2 run. Hickman, Rakestraw and Valaitis accounted for all 9 of those points to seal the team's third conference victory of the campaign.

Hiram will have a busy final week of the regular season, beginning with a makeup game against Kenyon on Monday at 7 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium. They'll also play Wittenberg on Wednesday at 7 p.m. (home) and Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at 1 p.m. (away).
