How it Happened

  • After Messiah took a 39-24 lead in the opening seconds of the third period, Lele Wright (Wilmington, Del./Howard) sparked a 10-3 run with six points as Hood cut the Falcons' lead to 42-34 with 4:19 left in the period. 
  • The Falcons answered by going on a 22-6 run that lasted over eight minutes that pushed their lead to 64-40 with 4:17 left in the final period. The run was fueled by Faith Grula, who scored 12 points during that eight-minute span to push Messiah over the top.
  • In the first period, Hood grabbed an early 4-2 lead off a Watkins-Harvey lay-up at the 7:05 mark.
  • Messiah's Amber High scored six points on an 8-0 run for the Falcons for a 10-4 lead with 4:35 left in the first period. 
  • Both teams traded baskets throughout the remainder of the period, as Messiah took a 17-11 lead in the second period. 
  • The Falcons opened the second period on a 12-2 run, giving Messiah a 29-13 lead with 5:47 left before going into halftime ahead 37-24.
