Guilford Reels in Virginia Wesleyan

The Guilford College women's basketball team hosted Virginia Wesleyan in another ODAC matchup. The Quaker's offense was no match and went on to win 80-67.

The first quarter was highly contested while the Quakers (19-3, 12-3) struggled to get a stop and to hit from three-point range. Both teams could not create separation from each other leading into the second quarter as the Quakers were up by one (17-16).

In the second quarter, Guilford was able to get some defensive stops while shooting better from the field. The Quakers were able to go on a 13-point run in the middle of the second quarter, cementing their lead for the rest of the half. Guilford was able to go into halftime with a 46-32 lead. 


The Quakers were able to keep momentum coming out of halftime and went on a 16-point run that continued for majority of the period. From this point, Guilford utilized its bench players to finish the game. The score at the end of the third was 70-47.

The Marlins (6-15, 2-12) were able to come back in the fourth quarter with a 14-point run of their own, which lasted until 1:50 left in the game. The Quakers slowed down the run and held on for the 13-point victory.


The Quakers were led by Anna Gianopolou with 16 points, three rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Courtney McMillan added 13 points and four rebounds.

Guilford takes on Washington and Lee next in Lexington, Virginia for a rematch on Saturday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m.
