Millikin Women’s Basketball Wins on Senior Day

The Millikin women's basketball team rolled to its 13 straight win defeating North Central College 86-60 on January 28 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois. Millikin is now 16-3 overall and 10-0 and in first place in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).

 

Millikin used its final regular season Saturday home game to honor its five seniors with Bailey Coffman, Miranda Fox, Chelsea McCullum, Sarah Ness and Abby Ratsch being honored in pregame ceremonies. The group now has a career record of 66-23 and has won a CCIW Regular Season and Tournament Championship as well as last year's run to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament.

 

Millikin never trailed in the game and had a 20-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter. It was 46-28 at halftime and 66-40 after three quarters. The Big Blue's largest lead of the game was 34 points in the final three minutes of the game.

 

Millikin shot 41 percent (31-75) from the field and made 7-18 (39 percent) from three point range. North Central made 39 percent (22-56) from the field and were 7-12 from beyond the arc. Millikin won the rebounding battle 45-34 and forced the Cardinals to commit 24 turnovers.

 

Millikin's top scorer was junior Elyce Knudsen with a double double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Coffman added 20 points. Emily White scored 12 points and Sarah Isaf added 11. McCullum had five points, three rebounds and two steals. Fox had three assists and five rebounds. Ratch had two assists, two blocks and one rebound. Ness had four points and seven rebounds.

 

Megan Duffy and Natalie Stavropoulos each had 12 points for North Central. Mitrese Smith and Grace Kieffer each added 10 points.

 

North Central falls to 5-14, 2-9.

 

Millikin will host North Park University on February 1 at 7 p.m.
