LVC Women’s Basketball Wins Big Over Stevenson

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's basketball team led from start to finish and used a big second quarter to pull away from Stevenson University for a 58-42 victory on Saturday afternoon at Sorrentino Gymnasium in the team's annual Pink Game.

The Dutchmen (10-9, 6-4 MAC Commonwealth) jumped out to a 6-0 lead on three buckets by Kate Fitzpatrick. The Mustangs 7-13, 6-5 MAC Commonwealth) scored their first points of the game on a three with 6:23 to go in the opening quarter. LVC kept the defensive pressure on and were able to take an 11-5 lead after a Cristina Fernandez three with 3:17 on the clock. Stevenson used a 6-0 run to tie the game up at 11 but Riley Hevelow and Fitzpatrick scored in the final minute of the quarter to give the Dutchmen a four-point advantage. LVC scored the first five points of the second quarter and held the Mustangs to just one made field goal with three seconds left in the half during a huge second quarter. The Dutchmen outscored the Mustangs 18-4 in the quarter including four three-pointers.

LVC grew the lead up to 21 midway through the third quarter following a three-pointer from Samya Santiague and a layup from Allison Bimmer. They took the largest lead of the game with just over a minute left in the quarter when Hevelow found Fitzpatrick open for a three to make it 49-25. Stevenson began the final quarter on a run to cut the deficit down to 16 points. Hevelow ended the run with a three and the Dutchmen stopped any thought of a comeback attempt increasing the lead to 58-38 with 2:39 left.

  • Fernandez filled the stat sheet with seven points, seven boards, five steals, two assists, and a block.
  • Fitzpatrick finished with a game-high 22 points and five rebounds.
  • Hevelow had 14 points and seven rebounds with three assists.
  • All 10 Dutchmen that played recorded a rebound.
  • The Dutchmen recorded a season-high 13 steals and turned the ball over 14 times.

Lebanon Valley will be on the road this Wednesday with a trip down to Maryland to take on Hood College. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Frederick.
