The game was played close throughout, with neither team taking more than a two-possession lead until the closing minutes of the game. The Judges controlled the pace early on, going up 9-3 with 7:32 to play in the first quarter before Mills answered back with a pair of unanswered threes to even the score. A pair of free throws by Characklis with 8:29 left in the half extended the Spartans' lead to 16-12, but the Judges scored six-straight points to regain the lead, and Brandeis closed out the half with a one-point advantage, 26-25.

The Judges took a 45-44 lead with 9:06 left in the game, but a pair of free throws by Mills on the next Spartans' possession gave CWRU the lead back, and the Spartans held the advantage for the remainder of the game, in large part due to free throw shooting. The Judges were able to cut the lead to as few as four points in the closing minute, but CWRU held on down the stretch for the win.
