LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's basketball team hosted Hollins on Wednesday at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats outscored HU in all but one quarter as they went on to win 62-38.

The WildCats improve to 16-2 overall and 10-1 in ODAC play. The team matched the program record for wins that was set last season.

Randolph led 11-5 at the end of the first quarter.  The WildCats were ahead 17-8 with 7:24 remaining in the second period but Hollins was able to cut its deficit to four points, 17-13, with 5:22 remaining in the quarter. The 'Cats jumped back up to an 11-point lead 24-13 with 1:47 to play. Hollins would go into halftime on a 9-0 run that closed the gap to three points, 24-21.

The WildCats started the third quarter on an 11-3 run to lead 35-24. Hollins closed to six points but Randolph added to its advantage with a 7-0 run and was ahead 43-30 at the conclusion of the quarter.

Hollins cut the Randolph lead to nine points, 43-34, with 8:05 left in regulation. That would be as close as it would get as the WildCats increased their lead and never looked back as they pulled away from HU.

"I was worried coming in about us losing focus and looking ahead to W&L and I think we were a little sluggish defensively especially in the second quarter," said head coach Steve Lanpher.  "I thought in the second half we got back to setting the tone with our defense."

The WildCats were 24-of-64 (37.5%) overall and 5-of-24 (20.8%) in three-point attempts. Hollins was 15-of-50 (30%) from the floor and 4-of-12 from behind the three-point arc.

Randolph controlled the boards 47-35. The WildCats outscored Hollins 26-6 in points off turnovers and 32-18 in the paint.

Jessica Jennings (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) led the way with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Kylie Stark (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) added 10 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Teniyah Crenshaw-Patterson (Newport News, Va./Heritage) also scored 10 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists. Abbie Baker (Salem, Va./Patrick Henry) grabbed nine rebounds and Nadia West (Monroe, Va./Amherst County) had eight rebounds.

"Overall great game by Jess," noted Lanpher.  "I thought she came in and really energized us on both ends of the court.  Abbie & Nadia really anchored us in the middle combining for 8 pts & 17 rebounds.  Tee had a nice overall game with 10 pts, 7 rebounds & 5 assists.

The WildCats return to the hardwood next Tuesday January 24 when they travel to Washington and Lee. Game time from Lexington is at 7:00 p.m.
