HIRAM, Ohio – January 14, 2023 – The Hiram women's basketball team had a balanced effort on both ends of the court in a 55-45 loss to Denison on Saturday afternoon at Price Gymnasium.

The Terriers held their opposition to a 1-15 mark from beyond the arc and outshot its opponents in FG pct, 40% (18-45) to 35.7% (20-56). Brooke Hickman had a career-high 24 points on an efficient 10-13 shooting, but the high-powered effort fell just short in front of an energetic home crowd.

Denison was led by Mikaila Carpenter with 16 points off the bench and Maddie Goodman with 12 points.

Hiram finished each of the first three quarters either trailing by a single possession or holding the lead. Hickman was contributing throughout, with 6 points in the first quarter, 6 in the second, 8 points in the third and 4 points in the fourth. Half of her rebounds were on the offensive end.

The Terriers took their biggest lead of the game when Lizzy Scharer made a jumper with 22 seconds remaining in the first half to give her team a 25-20 advantage. Hickman and Taylor Valaitis would later help Hiram regain that 5-point lead with a layup and jumper early in the third quarter.

Denison would pull away in the fourth quarter thanks to 6 points from Carpenter and a pair of buckets by both Abigail Westmeyer and Maddie Goodman.

Hiram will have a chance to improve its 3-2 home record on Wednesday when it faces Wooster at 7 p.m.
