Keuka College Women’s Basketball Falls at St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on the road on Tuesday at St. John Fisher University 90-40 in an Empire 8 Conference game.

Keuka College (3-9, 0-5 Empire 8) was led by Killian Mahoney (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) with 12 points. Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) and Lauren Hill (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville) each had eight points and Hill led the Wolves with six rebounds and six assists.

The hosts had a fast start, scoring the first 17 points of the game before Meg McGwin (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) converted a pair of free throws midway through the quarter. Killian Mahoney posted five for the Wolves in the first, but the Cardinal led 36-7 after one.

The Cardinals again had a good start to the quarter. A three and jumper by Mahoney were the only points for the Wolves in the opening five minutes. St. John Fisher scored ten straight over the final two minutes to lead 60-14 at the half.

Keuka College scored eight of the first nine points in the second half. Katie Deathridge (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) and Sydney Brown each hit a three while Killian Mahoney found Ellen Lavonas (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) down low for a layup. The Cardinals answered but Keuka took the quarter advantage again. It took six unanswered over the final four minutes and a last-second layup for St. John Fisher to tie the third against the Wolves, with each team scoring 17 points, but the Cardinals remained in control of the game.

Sydney Brown hit a three to open the fourth, but the Cardinals answered with ten straight. Their run was snapped by a Katie Deathridge three but the game was in hand. St. John Fisher continued onto the 90-40 conference victory.

  • Keuka College has historically had problems with St. John Fisher. The Wolves are 2-35 all-time with a season sweep by the 1990-91 team as the only Keuka victories
  • The two threes and six total points are a season-high for Katie Deathridge
  • Killian Mahoney passed Amy Chaffee '06 for ninth on the career three-pointer list
  • Mahoney also surpassed 100 points for the season on Tuesday

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves return home to the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center for a pair of Empire 8 Conference games this weekend. The Wolves open the weekend on Friday night, hosting Alfred University at 5:30 pm. Keuka College will then welcome Elmira College to David M. Sweet Court on Saturday. Tipoff between the Wolves and Soaring Eagles is set for 2 p.m.
