No. 7 BW Women's Basketball Shoots Past the Fighting Muskies in OAC Road Game

BEREA, Ohio - The No. 7 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games with a 65-43 win over Muskingum University in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest on Muskingum's Performance Court inside the Anne C. Steele Center.

BW (13-0, 6-0 OAC) was led by sophomore guard/forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon), as she notched two game-highs with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Fellow sophomore forward Bella Vaillant (Perrysburg) added 13 points and 4 rebounds. Eleven players etched their names into the scoring column for the Yellow Jackets in the winning effort.

Muskingum (4-9, 1-5 OAC) was led by sophomore forward Caitlin DeMassimo's team-high 10 points and 4 rebounds.

FIRST HALF

  • BW opened the game on an 8-0 run, jumping out to an early lead that the Yellow Jackets wouldn't give up.
  • Led by seven points from Ressler, the Yellow Jackets held a 17-8 advantage after one.
  • Vaillant found senior Academic All-OAC guard Regan Schill (Sheffield Village/Elyria Catholic) to cap off a 13-2 BW run, growing the lead to 25-10 with 4:55 left in the half.
  • The Yellow Jackets forced 8 turnovers and held Muskingum to a 24% clip from the field during the first half en route to a 30-16 halftime advantage.

SECOND HALF

  • After a back-and-forth start to the half, back-to-back baskets from Ressler extended the lead to 42-26 with 2:49 left in the third.
  • Muskingum closed out the quarter with back-to-back baskets of their own, cutting the lead to 42-31 entering the fourth quarter.
  • BW opened the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run, taking a 19-point lead (52-33) after junior guard Carolyn Wochele (Mentor) and Vaillant both connected from beyond the arc with just over seven minutes remaining.
  • BW outscored Muskingum 23-12 in the final period to close out the 65-43 victory.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, January 11 for an OAC contest against No. 20 nationally ranked Ohio Northern University. The Top-25 matchup is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. inside the ONU Sports Center in Ada.
