Women’s Basketball Score 91 Points in Win Against Medaille

BUFFALO, NY – The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team traveled to Medaille University for a Saturday afternoon Empire 8 matchup. The Cardinals had a strong performance, winning 91-36 against the Mavericks. With today's result, Fisher improves their record to 10-2, thanks to a six-game win-streak and remaining undefeated in the Empire 8 at 5-0.

Sidney Tomasso helped the Cardinals take an early lead, with a good jumper in the game's first minute. A few moments later, Tomasso made a three-pointer, setting the score 7-2. Katie Moravec made a good layup, pushing the scoring streak to nine unanswered points. Nearly a minute later, Tomasso scored another layup, with Kruszka scoring a layup two minutes after. Presleigh Brunner then got on the scoreboard with a three-pointer. The quarter ended with the Cardinals ahead 21-2.

Fisher started the second quarter strong, with Kaitlyn Walker making two free throws less than ten seconds in. Brunner closely followed with a three-pointer, extending the Cardinal's scoring streak to 22 unanswered points. A minute later, Tomasso scoreed the final points of the streak, a layup, and a free-throw, before the Mavericks again got back on the scoreboard. Kruszka quickly responded with a layup, putting the score at 31-4. Kelly Moravec scored her first two points of the game after a good layup. Tomasso quickly followed with a good layup, with Ke. Moravec scored a three-pointer that increased the Cardinal's lead to 40-4. The two teams finished the half going back-and-forth with scoring, with Fisher on top at 46-14.

The Cardinals kept the momentum going in the third quarter, with an early three-pointer made by Emilia Johnson. The next few minutes of the quarter had the teams sharing the points until Walker scored a layup that started a scoring streak and put the score at 61-20. Johnson made a three-pointer, followed by a layup by Walker. A minute later, Lauren Nawojski got on the scoreboard with a good layup. The Cardinals kept on scoring, pushing their scoring streak to 17, before the Mavericks scored and ended the quarter 76-23, with the Cardinals leading.

Fisher started the final quarter strong, with Ke. Moravec scoring a three-pointer, which was then followed by the teams scoring back and forth. Walker scored a layup, pushing the lead to 87-32. The Mavericks scored before Walker claimed another good layup. Medaille then scored another layup before Carlee Elliot scored the final points of the game with a layup. The game ended with the Cardinals winning 91-36.

Tomasso led the game with 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Walker had a strong afternoon, scoring 14 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Kruszka led in assists, having seven, while also scoring 11 points and having four rebounds. Johnson played 20 minutes, scoring six points, four rebounds, and one assist

The Cardinals return back home on Tuesday, January 10 for a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Keuka College.
