Manchester Suffers Loss at Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. - The Manchester women's basketball team suffered a loss on the road at rival Anderson University on Wednesday, January 4. The Ravens edged out the Spartans by a score of 74-68. 

The Ravens narrowly outscored the Spartans 16-13 in a back-and-forth first quarter. Anderson would maintain their lead throughout most of the second quarter, but the Spartans fought back, bringing it within three points with 1:34 left on the clock. A good three-point shot by Mia Shields (Arcadia, Ind., Hamilton Heights) tied the game up 31-31 at halftime. 

Anderson took back the lead with 6:06 left in the third quarter. The Ravens would outscore the Spartans 22-16 before the final 10 minutes of play. Manchester fought back to bring the deficit within two with less than 3 minutes left in Wednesday night's game, but the Ravens would pull away with the win. 

Lexi Dellinger led the Ravens with 26 points, shooting 5-7 from beyond the three-point arc. Jade Shipley finished the night with 19 points while Taylor Makynlee had a team-high 10 rebounds. As a team, Anderson shot 35.4% from the field and 66.7% from the free throw line. The Ravens improve to 7-5, 3-2 HCAC with the win. 

For the Spartans, First-year Jessie Ringen (Rensselaer, Ind., Rensselaer Central) had a career high 22 points, shooting 9-14 from the field. Bailey Keim (Denver, Ind., North Miami) added 11 points while Hailee Kline (Huntington, Ind., Blackhawk Christian) finished the night with 9 points and 4 rebounds. Bridget Nash (Carmel, Ind., Bishop Chatardand Ally Graber (Mooresville, Ind., Mooresville) led MU with 6 rebounds apiece. As a team, the Spartans shot 35.5% from the field and 83.3% from the free throw line. Manchester is now 6-6 overall, 2-3 in conference play. 

Up next, the Manchester men's and women's basketball teams will travel to Mount Saint Joseph for an HCAC doubleheader on Saturday, January 7. The women will tip-off against the Lions at 1:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 3:00 p.m.
