Randolph Women Take Down Mustangs 61-33

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's basketball team hosted Mid-Atlantic Christian in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats broke the game open with a big second quarter effort as they went on to win 61-33.

Randolph's winning streak runs to seven games with the victory and their overall record improves to 9-2. The Mustangs drop to 4-5.

The WildCats led 11-0 past the midway point of the first quarter. The Mustangs cut the Randolph lead with a 9-1 run to close the deficit and trail 12-9.

The 'Cats jumped on top of Mid-Atlantic Christian with a 17-2 run to begin the second quarter that covered seven minutes of game time. Cameron O'Neil (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) supplied eight of those points during the run. Randolph would lead 33-13 at the break.

Randolph led by as many as 28 points in the third quarter. The WildCats outscored the Mustangs 15-13 in the fourth quarter with the decision well in hand.

On the afternoon, the WildCats were 23-of-77 (29.9%) from the floor and 11-of-31 (35.5%) from behind the three-point arc. The Mustangs were 13-of-69 (18.8%) and just 2-of-26 (7.7%) in three-point attempts.

Randolph dominated the boards 70-50 with the 70 rebounds a season-high. The WildCats led in second chance points 25-11 and points in the paint 20-18.

O'Neil led the team with 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting that tied a career-high. All five of her baskets came from three-pointers. She also came down with six rebounds. Jessica Jennings (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) added nine points. Kylie Stark (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) chipped in seven points, five assists, and two rebounds. Nadia West (Monroe, Va./Amherst County) grabbed 11 rebounds and scored four points.

"I thought defensively we did a nice job containing their scorers and making them take difficult shots," said head coach Steve Lanpher after the game.  "Offensively, we played unselfishly.  Cam and Jess shot it really well from three and our post did a nice job rebounding led by Nadia with 11, Simone with 7 and Abbie with 6.

The WildCats next head down to Florida to play in the Daytona Beach Shootout. Randolph will first face Stevenson this Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
