William Paterson Women's Basketball Bested by Brooklyn in Road Tilt

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (6-4, 3-2 NJAC) fell to Brooklyn (4-6, 1-0 CUNYAC), 72-56, in a non-conference game on Dec. 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The two sides traded baskets for much of the first half until Brooklyn erupted for a 16-0 run in the final 3:33 of the second quarter to take a 12-point advantage (34-22) into the break.
  • Brooklyn maintained its double-digit lead for most of the second half, but a jumper by freshman Renee Wells with 3:11 left to play in the game brought the Pioneers within seven (61-54). However, the Bulldogs outscored William Paterson, 11-2, the rest of the way to grab the win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Wells tied her career-best scoring mark of 17 points after knocking down six shots on 11 attempts (.545) and going 3-of-5 (.600) from deep.
  • The rookie added seven boards and a career-high three steals to her stat line.
  • Sophomore Mackenzie O'Brien logged a season-best 10 points to go along with six rebounds.
  • Sophomore Victoria Palladino recorded eight points with and tied her career-high in rebounds with seven.
  • Sophomore Jade Martinez dished out a career-high six assists.

  • The Pioneers will head to the Bronx, N.Y., on Wednesday, Dec. 28, to take part in the two-day Lehman Tournament. William Paterson will open against Neumann at 12:00 p.m.
