Scots Fall 54-39 on Day 2 of Pat Deacon Classic

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Courtney Carruthers dropped 13 points on Day 2 of the Pat Deacon Classic and now has over 1,000 points for her career. She is the sixth Scot to reach the 1,000-point mark under Maryville Head Coach Darrin Travillian. Maryville fell to Wilmington (Ohio) 54-39 and they are now 1-4 on the season.

Coming into the contest, the senior needed just seven points to reach the milestone. The Quakers were able to hold her from reaching the magic number in the first quarter, but with 7:24 left in the second, Carruthers drove into the lane and put in a jump shot. This bucket gave her the 1,000 and 1,001 points of her career.

Carruthers was named to the All-Tournament Team after the game. Across two games this weekend, she scored 31 points (15.5 PPG), recorded eight rebounds (4 RPG), and picked up five steals (2.5 SPG). She has now scored 10 or more points in all five contests the Scots have played this season.

Second-Half Woes
While Maryville's troubles against Denison came mainly in the first 20 minutes of play, tonight the Scots struggled in the second half, scoring just 14 points in the final two quarters.

Maryville's second-half struggles started right out of the gate, as they scored just four points in 10 minutes in the third quarter. Their only two baskets came when Emma Huskey dropped in a layup with 7:40 remaining in the quarter, and when Madison Williams scored on a jumper with just 32 seconds left.

During this 7:08 drought, the Scots were 0-for-10 from the field and recorded three turnovers.

The Scots rebounded slightly in the fourth quarter, tying the Quakers 10-10 over the final 10 minutes of play, but they were unable to match their point total from the first or second quarter, where they scored 11 and 14 points, respectively.

The Bright Side
Despite their scoring struggles, there were some positives for Maryville to take home from this contest.

The Scots shot 37.2 percent (16-for-43) from the field in this contest, their highest field goal percentage of the season. They also held Wilmington to just 25.5 percent (14-for-55).

They fought hard on the boards, recording 34 rebounds, tying them with the Quakers for the game.

Finally, the Scots also led in fast-break points (4-2) and points in the paint (22-12).

Maryville is back on the road on Thursday night when they travel to Macon, Georgia, to open CCS play against Wesleyan. Tip-off for that game is at 5 p.m.
