EMU Completes Comeback Win over PSU-Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The EMU women's basketball team faced off against the Nittany Lions of Penn State-Harrisburg Sunday afternoon for a non-conference matchup.

The Royals led for the first three quarters, fell behind briefly in the fourth before storming back to pick up a 68-66 win.

Highlights

First Quarter

Mya Hamlet set the offensive tone for the Royals as she was able to tally 12 points in the opening frame to pace EMU. The Royals opened up the game with a 7-0 run, led by as many as 13 and saw themselves with a seven-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

Second Quarter

The  Nittany Lions were able to cut into the seven point lead, eventually getting it to four with a little more than seven minutes remaining before halftime. A couple of buckets from Trinity Washington and four straight from Jordyn Wright-Goode gave the Royals some breathing room. After a pair of Hamlet freethrows, the Royals saw themselves holding on to a nine point lead at the half.

Third Quarter

A pair of layups from Trinity Price, along with a freethrow, extended the EMU lead to 13 with five minutes left in the quarter. A 10-2 PSU Harrisburg run was able to cut the lead to six before Brii Redfearn drilled a three to push the lead back to nine. A Nittany Lion layup, followed by a Price freethrow gave EMU a six-point advantage heading to the fourth.

Fourth Quarter

PSU-Harrisburg opened the fourth on a 12-2 run to tie things at 52 and, at the 6:32 mark, took their first lead of the game with a layup. The rest of the game proved to be a fight, however, as the teams continued to trade points and no team led by more than three. After a Nittany Lion freethrow with 41 seconds left gave them a three-point lead, 66-63, the Royals reeled off five straight with four Hamlet freethrows and a Redfearn charity stripe bucket. PSU-Harrisburg put up a three, but it was off and Redfearn grabbed the rebound, securing the EMU win.

EMU will look to defend home court as they face Regent University on Tuesday at 5 pm. It's the Royals Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer Game.
