Grinnell women shatter school records for fewest points allowed, largest margin of victory in win over Central Christian

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's basketball team not only broke into the win column for the first time this season Monday, the Pioneers did so with an exclamation point.
 
Grinnell set school records for fewest points allowed in a game and largest margin of victory in a 73-19 win over Central Christian College of the Bible at Darby Gymnasium.
 
The previous low point total allowed by the Pioneers was 31, established three times. The 54-point margin of victory surpassed the previous mark of 52 set in an 86-34 victory over Cornell College on Jan. 31, 1990.
 
Grinnell shot 42 percent from the field while limiting the visitors to just 12 percent on 6-of-50 shooting.
 
First-year Kelsey Ericksen '26 had a huge breakout game with 14 points, hitting 4-of-7 treys in the process. Sara Booher '25 added nine points, Grace Marsh '25 put in eight and Skylar Thomas '26, Sarah Toay '23, Annie Filkins '24 and Elena Friedman '24 tallied seven apiece.
 
Besides her career-high point total, Toay also established a personal best for rebounds with 10. Six players had two assists each and P.K. Hall '25, Ericksen and Thomas added two steals apiece.
 
The 1-2 Pioneers never left the game in question, bolting out to a 10-0 lead as Booher, Thomas and Marsh had buckets, Aiyana Rockwell '24 added two free throws and Thomas a jumper.
 
Grinnell led 15-2 after one period, 27-9 at halftime and 41-12 after three quarters. Central Christian College of the Bible fell to 3-4 with the loss.
 
Grinnell is back in action Wednesday with a game at Central College. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
