No. 2 Hope pulls away late to beat La Roche

The second-ranked Hope College women's basketball team rode a second-half surge to an 86-54 first-round victory vs. La Roche University (Pa.) on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

In front of a DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 1986, the Fying Dutch outscored La Roche, 50-24, after halftime.

Hope (26-1) advanced to host Marietta College in a second-round game on Saturday at 7 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Seniors Olivia Voskuil and Kenedy Schoonveld scored 16 points apiece to lead four Flying Dutch in double figures.

Senior Sydney Muller chipped in 13 points, while Ella McKinney added 11.

La Roche (18-6) trailed 42-41 midway through the third quarter. Danahan Sanders scored a team-high 18 points. Ayanna Mazyck netted 16.
