READING, Pa. - The Hood College women's basketball team fell 78-42 at Alvernia in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth First Round.  

Inside the Box Score    

  • Tam Stanford led the Blazers with career-high 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting. 

  • Morgan Anderson matched a game- high 10 rebounds to go with a career-high eight blocks. 

How it Happened    

  • Hood took an early 7-5 lead on a basket by Bre Smith, just over four minutes into the action. Alvernia received six points apiece by both Kayla Williams and Tamia Wessels during a 16-6 run which gave the Golden Wolves a 21-13 lead. With 26 seconds remaining, Hood cut the deficit to five as Destiny Galloway hit a 3-pointer as Alvernia lead 21-16 to head into the second quarter. 

  • Alvernia kept rolling in the second quarter as they quickly pushed the lead to 13 points. The Blazers trimmed the lead to 10 on a 3-point play by Stanford with 2:46 remaining. The teams traded baskets for the rest of the first half until a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Alvernia's Jordan Karmonick gave a 13-point lead to take a 42-29 lead into halftime. Stanford scored seven of her 11 points in the quarter. 

  • Both teams went cold in the third quarter, shooting identical 4-for-18 marks from the field in the third quarter and Hood trailed 52-38 to head into the fourth quarter. 

  • The Golden Wolves found their stride in the fourth quarter and outscored the Blazers 26-4. 

Analysis    

  • Hood edged Alvernia 46-45 in rebounds and 18-12 in bench points. 

  • Alvernia held a 38-30 advantage in points in the paint and 18-8 in second chance points. 

  • The Golden Wolves had 21 steals on Hood's 31 turnovers, resulting in a 29-9 advantage in points off turnovers. 

For the Opponent  

  • Karmonick finished with 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting and added a game-high six assists. 

  • Wessels scored 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting and went 8-of-11 at the free throw line. 

  • Williams scored 13 points and Taliyah Malone pitched in with 11. Both players had four steals, one behind Tyra Robinson for the game-high. 

  • Janelle Robinson grabbed 10 rebounds.
