Hood falls to Golden Wolves in season finale

READING, Pa. - The Hood College women's basketball dropped an 88-52 final to Alvernia University on the road in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action. 

 
Inside the Box Score   

  • Morgan Anderson led the Blazers with 14 points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocks. 

  • Bre Smith finished with a career-high 11 points.  

  • Nikki Etchison scored 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting. The sophomore notched a team-high four steals and a pair of assists. 

How it Happened   

  • The Blazers went down 7-0 with 6:57 remaining in the first quarter. The teams traded baskets for the next minute but a 3-pointer by the Golden Wolves' Tyra Robinson started a 21-6 run that gave the Golden Wolves a 32-11 edge after the first period.. 

  • The 21-point first quarter Alvernia lead ballooned to a 40-point Blazers deficit to head into halftime. Alvernia's Robinson scored 17 of her 26 points in the first half. 

  • Alvernia's lead did not drop below 36 for the rest of the way to secure the Wolves' 12th win of the season. 

Analysis   

  • Alvernia edged Hood 42-40 in rebounds and 34-30 in points in the paint. 

  • The Golden Wolves had 23 steals on Hood's 31 turnovers, resulting in a 38-11 advantage in points off turnovers.  

For the Opponent 

  • Robinson finished with 26 points on 11-of-13 shooting and added a pair of steals. Robinson went 4-of-4 beyond the arc. 

  • Taliyah Malone scored 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting, going 4-of-6 from the 3-point line and handed out six assists. 

  • Kayla Williams finished with 15 points. Williams went 6-of-11 overall and 2-for-3 beyond the 3-point line. 

  • Jordan Karmonick grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

  • The win secured eighth place for the Golden Wolves heading into the MAC Commonwealth tournament
