NEWPORT, R.I. -- The University of New England women's basketball squad poured in 56 percent of its field goals and a whopping 62 percent from long range to race away from Salve Regina University in an 83-54 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory on Thursday night (Feb. 10) at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

Winners in their last five outings, the Nor'easters improve to 14-8 overall and 12-3 in conference dates. Second-place UNE, which has now defeated all but one league opponent this season, visits Roger Williams University (15-0 CCC) on Saturday.

The live-action shooting performance -- 34-for-61 total, 13-of-21 three-pointers -- marked season highs for UNE, and the visitors made at least 54 percent of their attempts in each quarter. Meanwhile, after connecting at a 62-percent rate in the 1st period, the Seahawks were held by the Nor'easters to a woeful 19 percent the rest of the way.

Abby Cavallaro equaled a personal-best with seven made triples (in 10 tries) and led all scorers with 21 points, to go with six rebounds and four assists. Kaylee Beyor knocked down 9-of-14 looks to tally 18 points with eight boards. Jordyn Franzen supported UNE with 13 points, eight caroms, six assists, and two blocks.

Juliana Tracey hit a couple from downtown and finished with 11 points and three steals. Allie Goodman also registered 11 points, and Sierra Tartre collected another seven boards as the Nor'easters amassed a 41-29 rebounding advantage. Additionally, the team scored 25 points off 17 SRU turnovers.

After the Nor'easters netted the initial five points of the evening, the sides traded sizable runs -- Salve Regina 13-0 and UNE 12-3 -- to leave the visitors up one (17-16). The Seahawks kept draining their shots (the last 4) and took a 26-22 edge through 10 minutes. But then UNE scored the first 11 of the 2nd quarter (33-26) while locking things down defensively, holding the hosts scoreless for more than five minutes (0-5 FG, 3 turnovers) and even longer without a field goal conversion. The margin moved to 47-35 at the midway break.

The gap swelled to 23 by the 3:50 mark of the 3rd (64-41), only to see Salve post the final seven of the frame and get back within 16. UNE responded to that with the opening 13 of the 4th to put things out-of-reach for good (77-48).

For the Seahawks (9-11, 8-6 CCC), Ashley Rourke made 5-of-10 from distance and ended with 19 points. Morgan Shuey went 4-of-5 from deep and added 16, while Amanda Folan chipped in with 14.
