Giants' Hot Start Stunts Saint Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Keystone women's basketball came out hot to stunt Saint Elizabeth, 66-50, Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference play at Saint Joseph's Hall.

The Giants opened the game to a 16-6 score with Bella Lamonea (Glendora, Calif./South Hills) accounting for half of those points. She went the rest of the first half with a perfect 5-for-5 shooting on two 3-pointers, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Saint Elizabeth bested Keystone by three points in the second half at a 30-27 margin, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Giants' 19-point halftime lead.

With the win, Keystone swept the regular season series and improved to 9-4 in the CSAC (11-7 overall) while SEU dropped to 1-12 CSAC, 1-16 overall.

The Giants sit tied for second-most wins (nine) in the conference with Wilson (9-3) and Notre Dame of Maryland (9-5).

Outstanding Performers

  • Lamonea finished 8 of 11 from the field for 20 points with eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. The senior is now just 25 points away from reaching the 1,000-career scoring mark.
  • Abby Ritz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) tallied a second consecutive double-double (fourth of the season) on 12 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Lee Gordon (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Wood) shot 7 of 11 from the field for 15 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals to surpass the 250 career steals mark. As of midday Saturday, the senior's 68 steals ranks in the NCAA Division III top five of total steals and steals per game.
  • Saint Elizabeth's Destiny Battle totaled a game-high 23 points with five rebounds, three assists and eight steals.

  • Keystone's shot at a 60.0 percent clip in the first half, going 15 of 25 from the field. The Giants finished 27 of 56 (48.2 percent) while the Eagles went 22 of 64 (34.4 percent).
