Guerrero's Late Free Throws Help Eagles Secure Comeback win over St. Norbert

MADISON, Wis. – Vivian Guerrero made two free throws with 3.3 seconds left to help cap an Edgewood College comeback in a thrilling 61-59 win over St. Norbert College on Thursday night inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome. Guerrero finished the game with 20 points as the Eagles erased an 11-point deficit for the big NACC win.

EAGLES 61, GREEN KNIGHTS 59
Edgewood College (8-11, 8-4 NACC) trailed 45-34 with 40 seconds remaining in the third quarter before starting a strong run to finish the game. They closed the third on a 5-0 run with Abby Shane burying a 3-point shot and Diamond Pikulyk recording a steal and fastbreak layup with two seconds remaining, bring the Eagles within six at 45-39.

- The St. Norbert (13-7, 10-3 NACC) basked with 40 seconds left in the third quarter to give was the Green Knights last field goal until there was under a minute left in the fourth quarter. St. Norbert only made six free throws in the first 9:13 of the fourth quarter as Edgewood College continued its comeback.

- The Eagles extended their run from the end of the third quarter to a 13-0 stretch, taking a 46-45 lead with 7:25 left after another Shane 3-pointer. Edgewood College would continue to build its lead, going up 58-51 with 57 seconds left.

- The Green Knights got back in it over the final minute thanks to a couple of 3-point makes by Emma Morrisey. Edgewood College also struggled at the line in the final minute and two free throws by Morrisey with 17 seconds left tied the game at 59-59.

- With the Eagles needing a basket to win it, they went inside to Guerrero as she was fouled with 3.3 seconds left. The freshman calmly sank both free throws to put her team up 61-59. St. Norbert got a good look on its final possession, but the ball rimmed out and the Eagles escaped with the league win.

- Guerrero's 20 points and eight rebounds led the way for the Eagles, who also received a 15-point effort from Diamond PikulykEmma Klein added nine points, while Shane finished the game with nine, making three 3-pointers over the final 11 minutes of the game. Klein also dished out six assists.


- The Eagles offense was impressive in the second half as they shot 56.5 percent (13-for-23) after halftime with just four turnovers. Edgewood College finished the game at 47.9 percent (23-for-48), while holding the Green Knights to 36.8 percent shooting (21-for-57). Guerrero finished the game 8-for-12 from the floor, while Pikulyk was 6-of-9.

- St. Norbert was led by Kaycee Gierczak who scored 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Olvivia DeCleene scored 15 points, while Morrisey finished with 13, eight of those in the final minute.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Shane is closing in on 1,000 career points as she now has 995 in her impressive career.

- Thursday was the first women's basketball matchup between these two schools since the 2007-08 season. This is St. Norbert's first year as a NACC member.
