Giants Push Back Patriots For Third Straight Win

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – Keystone women's basketball won its third consecutive game with a 59-54 victory over Valley Forge Friday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference play.

Valley Forge briefly tied the game at 37 near the top of the fourth quarter, but Lee Gordon's (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Wood) fast-break layup off her fourth steal (of seven total) gave Keystone the final lead for good.

Bella Lamonea (Glendora, Calif./South Hills) led the Giants on a third consecutive double-digit scoring game as she put in 11 points through the final seven minutes to help fend off the Patriots.

With the win, Keystone swept UVF in the regular season and improved to 7-3 in the CSAC (9-6 overall) to move to No. 2 tied with Wilson in conference win percentage (.700).

Valley Forge dropped to 3-8 CSAC, 3-11 overall.

Outstanding Performers

  • Lamonea led Keystone with 17 points. She also went 6 of 8 from the free-throw line in the final quarter.
  • Mac Oribello (San Diego, Calif./Westview) followed with 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
  • Laya Butts (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) scored a season-high 11 points off the bench with six rebounds and three 3-pointers.
  • Jessi Manning finished with a double-double for Valley Forge with 23 points and 16 rebounds.
  • The Patriots' Kaionna Hanna also tallied a double-double on 11 points and 10 boards.

Inside The Box Score

  • Valley Forge went on a 13-2 run through the middle section of the second quarter. The Giants shot 1 of 8 from the field and had four turnovers before turning it around for an 8-0 run to end the final two minutes of the first half.
  • Third quarter seemed to be the difference maker as the Giants outscored the Patriots, 14-8, on 5-of-13 shooting while UVF made just two shots from the field.
  • The Patriots shot just 2 of 22 (9.1 percent) from beyond the arc while the Giants splashed 9 of 35 (25.7 percent).
  • Keystone shot 10 of 14 (71.4 percent) from the free-throw line while Valley Forge went 12 of 19 (63.2 percent).
