Carroll Women’s Basketball Picks up Seventh Straight Win

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's basketball team defeated the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan University in Van Male Field House on Saturday afternoon. A strong second-quarter pushed the Pioneers to a 70-48 victory. Elizabeth Behrndt led the team with 13 points on 6-11 shooting. Olivia Rangel added 10 points, four assists, and a steal.
 
The Pioneers (12-3, 4-3 CCIW) claimed their seventh straight victory, defeated the Titans for the first time since 2007, and picked up their first CCIW victory over the Titans since 1992. Carroll finished the game 29-64 from the field and knocked down six threes, the most in the past three games. Carroll forced 24 Illinois Wesleyan turnovers and picked up eight total steals leading to 25 points off turnovers. Carroll dominated the paint, with 40 points to the Titan's 18. Carroll's 33 bench points were sparked by Theresa Wichser (9 PTS, 3-5 3PM) and Brooke Foster (8 PTS, 3-6 FGM).
 
Carroll quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead that was slowly chipped away by the Titans. Behrndt's second-chance layup put the Pios up 10-8 with 6:10 left in the first quarter. After the first media timeout, Carroll went cold as IWU finished the first quarter on a 14-4 run to take an eight-point lead after the first period. Foster scored eight points in the second quarter to retake the lead with 4:58 remaining in the first half. Carroll dominated the second quarter, jumping into a 28-8 run to take a 12-point lead going into halftime.
 
A flurry of Pioneer layups led to a 19-point advantage at the first media timeout of the first half, but the Titans stuck around and cut the lead back to 14 to end the third quarter. Carroll went into the fourth quarter starting an 11-3 run capped off by a Chloe Halverson (7 PTS, 8 REB) three-point basket to take a 23-point lead. Behrndt added a layup for her 13th point of the game to give Carroll a 25-point lead and the victory.
 
The Pioneers will stay at home for a makeup game with Augustana College on Monday, January 24 at 7 PM. Carroll will host the Vikings for the first time since the 2020-21 CCIW Women's Basketball Tournament game in Van Male.
