Keuka College Women’s Basketball Falls at Hartwick College

ONEONTA, N.Y. — Concluding their Empire 8 weekend trip, the Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost at Hartwick College 71-35 on Saturday afternoon.  

Jenna LaMere (Scottsville, N.Y. / Wheatland-Chili) led Keuka College (1-13, 0-6 Empire 8) with nine points. Katherine Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) added seven points and six rebounds. Meaghan McGwin (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) led the Wolves with seven rebounds in the game.

Hartwick College 71 vs. Keuka College 35

The Hawks came out flying as they built a 12-0 lead over the Wolves. Jenna LaMere got Keuka on the board with 4:26 left in the first by turning defense into offense. LaMere blocked the Hartwick shot with Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) collecting the rebound. Brown then returned the ball to LaMere on the offensive end who drained the three for Keuka's first basket of the game. Meaghan McGwin later added a three but the Hawks led 19-6 after one.

The game followed the same script in the second. The Wolves were outscored 21-6 in the frame. Keuka's points came on a pair of threes by Jenna LaMere. The three triples were a new career-high for the sophomore. Hartwick College led 40-12 at the half.

The Wolves increased their offensive output in the third quarter, but the Hawks maintained their advantage. The Green and Gold scored 11 in the third, highlighted by threes by Lauren Hill (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville) and Amelia Poole (Bloomfield, N.Y. / Bloomfield), but the Wolves trailed 58-23 going into the fourth.

The final quarter was the closest of the game, but Hartwick still kept an edge and won the quarter. The Hawks outscored Keuka 13-12 to secure the 71-35 conference victory.

  • Keuka College falls to 4-5 all-time against Hartwick College and 2-2 in games in Oneonta
  • The Wolves had 10 field goals in the game, nine of which came from behind the arc
  • The Green and Gold attempted 42 threes in the game. The Wolves have now set a new program record, attempting 543 threes this season, and set the record in just 14 games. Entering the weekend, Keuka College has attempted the eighth-most threes in the nation
  • Junior Meaghan McGwin surpassed 300 points for her career on Saturday
  • Keuka battled hard on the boards. The Wolves collected 43 rebounds in the game and out-rebounded Hartwick 12-10 on the offensive glass

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves are back in action on Friday for another Empire 8 weekend. Play will open at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Friday, January 28 as Keuka hosts nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College. The Green and Gold will then welcome Elmira College to the JMW Center on Saturday afternoon.
