SCRANTON, Pa. – In a battle of two 12-2 teams that had combined to win 16 straight games, the Salisbury University women's basketball team saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end, falling to the Scranton Royals, 63-55, on Tuesday afternoon at the John Long Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Royals struck first on a Bridget Monaghan jumper at the 8:19 mark of the first quarter. A minute later Jada Welbon connected on a jumper for the Sea Gulls, igniting a 10-0 run over the next three minutes. Hailey Ader, Lauren Fortescue, Ader and Kaylee Otlowski all hit buckets to build the SU lead to 10-2 with 4:19 to go.
• Maddie Hartnett drained a three-pointer for Scranton to stop the bleeding, but Fortescue and Abby Wilkinson each sank field goals to put Salisbury up 14-5 at the 2:25 mark. From there the Royals netted the next seven, using an Emily Shurina layup at the buzzer to get back within 14-12 at the end of the first.
• Neither side scored in the second quarter until Hannah Angelini's layup tied it at 14-14 at the 7:11 mark. With the game knotted at 16-16 with 4:33 until halftime, the Royals went on a run of their own. Abby Anderson scored the next six points by herself on two layups and a pair of free throws, then a Monaghan triple put Scranton on top 25-16 at the 2:28 mark.
• Ashlynn Burrows hit the Sea Gulls' only field goal of the second at the 1:25 mark to end the drought, but Maddy Ryan's layup with 23 seconds left gave the Royals a 27-18 cushion going into halftime.
• Down 34-25 two minutes into the third quarter, Salisbury began climbing back into it, starting with an Otlowski jumper. Kylie Webb and Ader soon hit their own buckets to make it a 6-0 run and get the Sea Gulls within 34-31 at the 6:10 mark.
• The Royals took control soon after and rebuilt their advantage to 41-34 at the 3:41 mark. Wilkinson answered with a triple, and Emily Dilger's layup got SU within 41-39 with 2:13 to go.
• After Scranton muscled its way back to a five-point lead at 45-40, Welbon knocked down a three as time expired in the third, bringing Salisbury within one possession at 45-42 entering the final period.
• Anderson made a layup and a trey in quick succession early in the fourth quarter, sparking a 12-2 Royals run. Anderson capped the run herself with a free throw that made it 57-44 at the 5:16 mark.
• Down 59-48 with 2:44 to go, Salisbury got it within single digits on field goals from Fortescue and Otlowski, but it was too little, too late as Scranton iced it at the charity stripe and walked away with a 63-55 victory.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Kaylee Otlowski registered her sixth double-double of the season and 28th of her career, leading the Sea Gulls with 17 points (8-of-18) and 14 rebounds, including six off the offensive glass.
• Lauren Fortescue netted 12 points (4-of-14) to go along with five rebounds and four assists.
• Kylie Webb chipped in seven points, while Hailey Ader added six of her own.
• The Sea Gulls shot 35.4 percent (23-of-65) from the floor, including 3-of-9 (33.3 percent) from long range. SU connected on just 6-of-13 (46.2 percent) free throw attempts.
• Salisbury assisted on 17 of its 23 field goals, with Jada Welbon dishing out a team-high six dimes.
• The Sea Gulls matched a season low with seven turnovers but only forced nine Scranton giveaways. SU's four steals are the team's lowest mark of the season.

SCRANTON GAME NOTES

• Abby Anderson paced the Royals on both ends of the court, finishing with a team-best 16 points (5-of-18) and 17 rebounds, all defensive.
• Emily Shurina scored 14 points on 6-of-17 shooting, while Maddy Ryan added 10 points off the bench.
• The Royals connected on 41.4 percent (24-of-58) of their field goals and went 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) from the charity stripe.
• Scranton outrebounded the Sea Gulls 43-40, though Salisbury held a 12-9 advantage on the offensive glass.
