SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Catholic University women's basketball team totaled 21 steals and scored 41 points off turnovers en route to a 68-43 road win over Susquehanna Saturday at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.

The Cardinals (10-1, 1-1 LC) won their fifth-straight against the River Hawks and remained undefeated in four road games this season.

With 10 wins in 11 games, No. 24 Catholic is off to its best start since the 2012-13 season when the team won its first 14 games en route a 27-2 record, a Landmark Conference championship and appearance in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.

Junior Erin Doherty totaled 16 points, four rebounds and a career-high five steals. She was one of 10 players who had at least one steal as the Cardinals tied their season high with 21. They also had 21 steals in a 73-48 win versus St. Mary's (Md.) on Nov. 23.

In her first game since Dec. 4, junior Erin Thompson also had a career-high five steals to go along with five points and three assists.

Junior Sammie McCarter added 12 points while junior Rachel Bussanich had 10. The junior trio of Doherty, McCarter and Bussanich combined for 38 points, 12 rebounds and eight steals.

Susquehanna (7-3, 0-2 LC) scored the game's first five points and led 7-2 before Catholic tied it at 7-7.

A layup by McCarter with 5:26 remaining in the first quarter sparked a quick 6-0 run to give the Cardinals their first lead. They would never trail again.

Catholic led by 13 at halftime, outscoring the River Hawks, 35-22, before stretching its lead to as many as 28 in the fourth quarter.

McCarter and Bussanich each scored eight points in the second half while the Cardinals held Susquehanna to just 9-of-22 shooting, including 0-of-7 from three-point range.

Freshman Carly Mulvaney had a career-high nine rebounds while senior Amanda Johnson had five points, four assists and three steals.

Olivia Brandt had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the River Hawks.

Catholic returns home to face Elizabethtown on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Cardinals won both meetings with the Blue Jays a year ago, including a 77-65 decision at home on Feb. 26, 2020.
