Griffins Lose to Rangers at Hoops for Hounds Tournament

Williamsport, Pa. - (12/29/2021) - Gwynedd Mercy University (6-6) continued a see-saw season with an 82-50 loss to Drew University (9-0) in their first contest at Lycoming College's Hoops for Hounds Tournament. Sophomore forward Natalie O'Neill (Philadelphia, Pa.) came off the bench to lead the Griffins with 10 points, four rebounds, and assist, and a steal. It was her second double-digit effort of the season. Junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.) supported with seven points, eight rebounds, and a steal. Senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) chipped in with seven points, three rebounds, and five assists.

Crossley led Gwynedd Mercy University through a tightly played first quarter; 17-16. In the second quarter, Drew University slowly pulled away as the Griffins held a brief 18-17 (8:18) advantage before the Rangers rallied for a 39-29 halftime lead. They quickly distanced themselves from Gywnedd Mercy University at the start of the third quarter as they advanced their favor to 20 points, 49-29, by 6:17 and 33 points, 67-34 (0:05) by the end of the period. The fourth quarter provided time for O'Neill to get her buckets as she scored all 10 of her points in the final frame.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their time at the Hoops for Hounds Tournament tomorrow, Thursday, November 30, with a 12:00 p.m. tip-off against William Paterson University
