Hood's Fourth quarter comeback not enough against Eastern Mennonite

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's basketball erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter but a 19-2 run by Eastern Mennonite to close the game gave the Blazers a 60-49 loss in non-conference action. 

Inside the Box Score 

  • Morgan Anderson scored 20 points from 8-of-14 shooting. The senior grabbed a season-high 19 rebounds and added four blocks and three steals. 

  • Nikki Etchison finished with 11 points off the bench. 

 

How it Happened 

  • After trialing 38-29, back-to-back layups by Anderson helped spark a 14-2 run that gave the Blazers their first lead of the game, 43-40 after an and-one by Anderson with 6:04 left.  

  • Hood's lead eventually grew to 47-41 before Royals' Mya Hamlet scored 12 points during a 19-2 run to end the game.  

  • In the third quarter, a 3- pointer by Etchison to put the Blazers within two (26-24) with 9:16 remaining, both teams were scoreless for nearly three minutes. Eastern Mennonite broke the stalemate with free throws by Constance Komara that started a 12-6 run to end the period, resulting in a 38-30 EMU lead. 

  • The Royals built an 11-point advantage in the second period,20-9 on a bucket by Laila Glymph. The Blazers answered back with three back-to-back 3-pointers by Smith, cutting the deficit to four points and the Hood eventually trailed 26-22 at halftime. 

  • Neither team mounted much offense before a 3-pointer by Eastern Mennonite's Brii Redfearn started a 11-5 spurt, for a 15-9 lead to end the quarter. 

Analysis 

  • Hood outrebounded Eastern Mennonite 48-30 

  • The Royals edged Hood 26-22 in points in the pain 

  • The Blazers held an advantage in bench points 16-3. 

  • Eastern Mennonite had 21 steals on Hood's 37 turnovers, resuting in a 31-8 advantage in points off turnovers. 

For the opponent 

  • Hamlet led the Royals with 27 points from 10-of-17 shooting and five rebounds 

  • Constance Komara grabbed 11 rebounds. 

  • Redfearn, Komara, Hamlet added four steals each. 

Notes 

  • The Blazers drop to 4-5 on the season, while the Royals improved to 4-6.
