Sharkey Scores First Griffin Triple-Double in Win over Wilkes University

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (12/18/2021) - An inspired performance from junior forward Cayla Sharkey (Lansdale, Pa.) headlined this evening's 89-76 victory over Wilkes University (4-7), as the Gwynedd Mercy University (6-5) paint protector recorded the first triple-double  in school history with 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 blocks. Sharkey's hallmark afternoon included five three-point (5-of-13, .385) baskets in an 8-of-17 (.471) field goal effort that also came with two assists and three steals. Junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.) supported Sharkey's sensational performance with her fifth double-double of the season as she finished the contest with 18 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Sophomore guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) offered 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) contributed 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Off the Gwynedd Mercy University bench, sophomore forward Natalie O'Neill (Philadelphia, Pa.) provided six points, ten rebounds, and four blocks.

Gwynedd Mercy University's lead first reached double digits late in the first quarter; 20-10 (0:55). The spread settled at seven points, 20-13 (0:19) for the first-quarter break, but Sharkey made her impression on the affair, keeping the Griffins comfortably ahead for a 40-31 (0:21) halftime advantage, a 65-49 (0:27) third-quarter favor, and the eventual 89-76 final.

Gwynedd Mercy University competes next on Wednesday, December 29, with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off against Drew University at Lycoming College's Hoops for Hounds Tournament.
