BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Less than 24 hours after suffering its first loss of the season, the Mitchell College women's basketball team bounced back to claim a 57-54 victory over Worcester State University on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Bowdoin Tip-Off Tournament.

The Mariners (4-1 overall) got back on the winning track behind game highs of 19 points and 11 rebounds from Amina Wiley, who was named to the all-tournament team. Sam McKenna came off the bench to chip in 14 points, five boards and four steals while Le'Sandra Turner contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Elizabeth Gallella paced Worcester State (2-4 overall) with 14 points.

After a tight first half, Mitchell led by four midway through the third quarter before the Lancers went on a run. Worcester State ripped off 12 unanswered points to grab a 41-33 lead with 1:24 left in the period. Fortunately for the Mariners, Wiley made a pair of lay-ups in the final minute to trim the deficit to four heading into the final stanza.

Mitchell trailed by as many as five in the fourth quarter before rallying back. A free throw by Turner, a three by Dede Stevenson and a bucket by Chelsea Marcano put the Mariners back in front. The two sides traded the lead again in the ensuing minute of play, with Marcano draining a huge three-pointer to put Mitchell on top with 5:43 to go.

Later on, the Mariners stretched the lead to five on a pair of free throws by McKenna, but the resilient Lancers fought back to tie the game at 54-54 with a minute remaining. On Mitchell's next possession, Stevenson drove into the paint and found Wiley for the go-ahead score. After a Stevenson free throw gave the Mariners a three-point cushion, Worcester State had a chance to tie on the game's final possession but couldn't get off a shot.

Both teams finished with 22 field goals and six free throws, but the difference was Mitchell's three additional three-pointers. McKenna led all players with four treys.

Mitchell will next host Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday, November 24 at 1 p.m.
