No. 15 Comets Improve to 2-0, Host No. 4 Whitman Monday

RICHARDSON, TX (11.18.21) - The No. 15-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season Thursday night as the Comets earned a 75-61 win over Belhaven in the squad's ASC and home opener.

Kaylee Boykin led three Comets in double digits with 16 points as UTD earned victory in its 15th consecutive home opener. Paris Kiser finished with 11 points while Alex Bowman came off the bench for 10 points.

The Comets got off to a slow start for the second straight game to open the new season, falling behind Belhaven by as many as eight points, 20-12, late in the first period. UTD rallied to close the quarter and took control of the contest by halftime.

UTD outscored the visiting Blazers (3-1, 0-1 ASC), 28-12, in the second quarter to secure a comfortable 46-34 lead at intermission. The Comets then clamped down defensively in the third, outscoring BU 15-8 in the quarter, to extend their lead to 19 points, 61-42, heading to the fourth.

The Comets bested Belhaven, 40-26, in the paint and scored 28 points off of 24 Blazer turnovers. McKenzie Howard sparked UTD with seven rebounds while Jordan Rudd came off the bench for a team-best five assists. 

UTD will next open back-to-back games against top five opponents when the Comets host No. 4 Whitman Monday at 5:30 p.m. The Comets will then host No. 2 East Texas Baptist on Monday, Nov. 29.
