Springfield College Women's Basketball Rolls Past Endicott, 74-52

Springfield, Mass. - November 17, 2021 - The Springfield College women's basketball team raced out to an 18-3 lead and never looked back as it picked up a 74-52 win over visiting Endicott College in Blake Arena on Wednesday evening. 

The Pride, which is off to its best start since 1998, improve to 5-0 on the season, while Endicott dipped to 0-2.

Sidney Wentland (Elk River, Minn.) continued her impressive play as she delivered a double-double performance with 22 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists, while Sam Hourihan (Bridgewater, Mass.) registered 17 points, five boards, and four blocks. Grace Dzindolet (Holliston, Mass.) chipped in 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals, and fellow guard Rachel Vinton (Rutland, Mass.) notched 14 points, eight caroms, and three steals. As a team, Springfield owned a 38-20 scoring edge in the paint and turned 22 Endicott turnovers into 23 points.  

For the Gulls, Sarah Dempsey tallied 14 points and six boards in the setback, while both Tara Laugeni and Ariana Silvia each tallied eight points.

 The Pride took control of the game from the opening whistle, taking advantage of eight Endicott turnovers to seize an 18-3 lead with 4:42 left in the opening quarter following an inside finish from Wentland.  Springfield would lead by as many as 17 points as another bucket from Wentland pushed the Pride's cushion to 24-7 at the 3:24 mark, and the hosts would head into the second quarter with a 26-12 lead. Both teams scored 17 points in the second quarter, as the visitors would get as close a 32-19 on a jumper by Bogdanski, only to have Hourihan can a trifecta and Dzindolet follow with a jumper to give Springfield its largest first-half lead, 37-19, at the 5:08 mark.  Dzindolet would score on her own offensive rebound in the inside the final minute which allowed the hosts to take a 43-29 into the halftime break. 

With just over three minutes left in the third, Endicott would pull within 52-42 after a layup by Laugeni, only to have Springfield score the final nine points of the frame, en route to a 61-42 advantage after 30 minutes of action. Springfield continued its scoring burst in the fourth, netting the first nine points of the stanza, including five from Wentland, as the lead ballooned to 29 points with just over five minutes left in regulation. The hosts held Endicott to just 10 points in the final quarter as it cruised to a 74-52 triumph.  

Springfield will play again in Blake Arena on Saturday when it hosts Vassar at 1 pm.
