Women's basketball rallies for win at Aurora

AURORA, Ill. - The women's basketball team survived a road test at Aurora with a 80-76 victory on Tuesday night. The Panthers outscored AU 32-16 in the final quarter for the win.

Greenville finished the first quarter with a 20-14 lead, receiving nine points from Madelyn Stephen and six from Emily Reinneck.

The Spartans took the lead going into halftime with a 24-14 advantage in the second quarter, entering halftime up on Greenville 38-32.

Aurora extended their lead by six points in the third period, making the score 60-48 when the quarter concluded.

In the final period, Greenville tallied the first 10 points, closing the gap to 60-58 with a three-pointer by Abigail Reinneck with 8:11 to play.

Emily Reinneck hit a three-pointer with 6:14 remaining, pulling the Panthers within one point, and a free throw by Stephen with 4:59 left in the game evened the score at 65-all.

The Panthers eventually took a lead by as many as three points, but Aurora made a pair of free throws with 2:41 to play in the game that put them back ahead 71-70.

However, a layup by Stephen and a three-pointer by Abigail Reinneck gave Greenville a 75-71 lead, and the Panthers' Emily Reinneck and Ally Cantrill made five of six free throws in the final 35 seconds to seal GU's third win.

Emily Reinneck ended the game with 20 points for Greenville, and Abigail Reinneck and Stephen each had 18.

Emily Reinneck also filled her statistics line with nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

Cantrill led GU with seven assists, and Ashley Anderson contributed three steals and two blocked shots.

The Panthers (3-2) host William Woods on Thursday at 6 p.m. in H.J. Long Gymnasium.
