Benedictine Women Streak to Season Opening Win

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team finally had the opportunity to play, setting the tone early in a win over Concordia Chicago for the first career victory for head coach Abbey Hengesbach.

THE DETAILS
Elisa Diorio scored the first four points of the game to set the tone as Benedictine got off to a hot start
Hanna Piro ignited a 13-0 run with a jumper at the 8:35 mark of the opening quarter to make the score 6-2
Concordia Chicago did not score for nearly six minutes as Benedictine stretched the lead to 17-2 on a jumper from Sara Smith
The visitors scored the final four points of the first quarter but Benedictine led 19-8 after making 7-of-11 field goals including the first five of the game
Concordia Chicago rallied in the second quarter, scoring the final six points to pull within 23-20 at halftime as Benedictine made just two field goals
The third quarter started slow with neither team scoring in the first three minutes
Leading by one point Diorio opened a 6-0 run with a jumper to extend the lead to 29-22
Brianna Lake converted on consecutive three-point plays and Piro knocked down a three as Benedictine used nine straight points to gain some distance and lead 42-27
Concordia Chicago pulled no closer than 10 points the rest of the way

Benedictine shot 38.7 percent from the field and held a 42-37 edge on the glass
