Women’s Basketball Improves to 4-0 by Downing Berry, 46-40

JACKSON, Miss. – Powered by senior Taelor Manning's tenacity on the offensive and defensive side of the floor, the Millsaps women's basketball team prevailed over Berry, 46-40 on Saturday night inside the Hangar Dome.

Millsaps (4-0, 3-0 SAA) once again exhibited an overwhelming presence defensively by holding Berry (0-2, 0-1 SAA) to 23.1 percent from the field and 11.1 percent from the three-point line.

Manning led the Majors with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals. Sophomore guard Briasha King also reached double figures for the Majors with 14 points.

Millsaps led Berry from start to finish, including a crucial 9-0 run in the second quarter to lead 23-15 at halftime. The second-quarter flurry would prove to be the difference by the end of the game.

To hold off the Vikings, Manning and King combined for eight of the majors last 10 points in the final three minutes of the game.

Going into the fourth quarter, the Majors had an eight-point lead. Berry's last gasp effort, led by senior Capri Frazier (seven points in the fourth), was enough to take a 35-34 lead with 3:13 remaining in the game.

Both Manning and King then sunk a pair of free throws to recapture the advantage. The game-sealing play came with 40 seconds left when Manning stole the ball for a fast-break layup to push the lead up to seven points and out of reach.

Millsaps will face the Vikings again at home in the Hangar Dome on Sunday at 1 p.m. Live video and stat links can be found on the women's basketball schedule page at gomajors.com.
