Millikin Women Opens Season with Victory

The Millikin women's basketball celebrated their return to action with a 77-66 win over Carthage College on January 23, 2021 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.  The two teams will play again on Monday in Kenosha, Wisconsin as part of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) pandemic schedule.

 

Despite not having fans in the stands, the Big Blue jumped out to an early 11-3 lead in the first five minutes of the game.  Freshman Elyce Knudsen started the scoring making her first career shot a three-pointer to put Millikin on the board.  The Big Blue lead 22-8 at the end of the first quarter and 40-22 at the half.

 

Millikin shot 46 percent from the field including going 9-24 (37.5) percent from three-point range.  Carthage shot 43 percent from the field making 7-19 from three-point range (37 percent).  Millikin won the rebounding battle 44-29.

 

Sophomore Bailey Coffman led Millikin in scoring with 17 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Hildebrand had 13 points and tied Coffman with a team high eight rebounds.  Knudsen finished with 11 points and Aubrey Staton added 10.  Miranda Fox had eight points and a team high six assists.

 

Kelsey Coshun led Carthage with 15 points followed by Amanda Larson and Ayanna Ester with 13 each.
