DePauw Advances to NCAA Second Round with Win over Webster

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw held the ninth-ranked scoring offense in the country to a season low total and 34 points below their average and advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship second round with a 71-45 win over visiting Webster in front of a large and loud crowd at Neal Fieldhuse. The Tigers moved to 28-1 with their 24th straight win, while the Gorloks ended their season at 20-8. DePauw faces 24-4 Loras in tomorrow's 7 p.m. second-round game after the Duhawks topped Wisconsin-La Crosse, 68-52, in the evening's first game.

"The Gorloks are pretty darn good," DePauw head coach Kris Huffman said. "The way they change up defense they put a lot of pressure on us. We had different people step up."

The Tigers got out to a 6-0 lead on a pair of baskets from Sydney Kopp and a layup from Hayley Cange. DePauw stretched the lead to as many as seven and led at the quarter break, 22-15. Leading 27-18, the Tigers put together a 10-2 run to push the margin to 37-20 with 2:44 left in the half and took a 39-25 lead into the intermission. A 9-0 stretch early in the third extended the DePauw advatage to 53-27. Webster was within 18 early in the fourth, but an 11-2 spurt put the contest away.

Mya Shannon came off the bench to finish with 22, one shy of equaling her career high, as she hit 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Kopp finished with 19 point with Cange posting a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds and Claire Keefe scoring 10. Grace Kinsey dished out four assists and had three steals in the win.

Jaysea Morgan led the Gorloks with 12, while Lauryn Freeman added 11 and a team-high six rebounds with Addison Beussink adding 10 points.

DePauw shot 47.4 percent from the field to Webster's 36.4 percent and the Tigers held a 38-19 rebound margin.

Loras outscored Wisconsin-La Crosse, 18-7 in the third quarter on the way to victory. Mariss Schroeder paced the Duhawks with 20 points and nine boards.
