Gauldin Leads Guilford Women past Washington and Lee in ODAC Tournament

SALEM, Va. – Lindsay Gauldin scored a season-high 24 points and Miracle Walters added 18 in Guilford College's 84-77 upset of Washington and Lee University in Thursday night's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament quarterfinals.

With their sixth win in seven games, the Quakers (16-9) advance to Saturday's ODAC semifinals for the 17th time 29 tournament appearances to face sixth-seeded Roanoke College, an 85-58 winner over Bridgewater College in Thursday's final quarterfinal contest in the Salem Civic Center. Guilford and Roanoke tipoff at 3:00 p.m. in Saturday's second semifinal.

Washington and Lee, seeded second in the tourney, ends its season with an 18-8 record.

Guilford raced to a 9-0 lead and a Walters layup closed out the first quarter with the Quakers holding 15-10 edge at the end of the frame. Guilford held Washington and Lee to 21.4 percent shooting from the floor in the first 10 minutes of play.

The Generals rallied in the second quarter, coming within two points of the lead three times, but Guilford ultimately headed into halftime up 37-30.

Both teams battled through the third and fourth quarters with two ties and four lead changes in a game that came down to the wire. Washington and Lee's Taylor Casey, who scored a game-high 29 points, drained her seventh three-pointer with 31 seconds remaining in regulation to bring the Generals to within 78-77. The Generals were forced to foul and Guilford took advantage of the double bonus from the free-throw line. Freshman Carisma Lynn hit two free throws with 28 ticks left and Guilford got four free throws from Walters in the closing seconds to secure the win.

Guilford had a season-high five different students score in double figures, including Lynn, Kristen Roberts, and Calyn Davis who each chipped in 11 points. On the boards, both Lynn and Monell Dunlap pulled down seven rebounds apiece.

Guilford's 84 points mark the second-highest point total it's scored in an ODAC Tournament game as the Quakers scored 86 points in a 2016 quarterfinal win over Randolph-Macon.

For the Generals, Erin Hughes and Megan Horn netted 17 and 16 points, respectively. Horn also added a game-high nine assists and Jordan Diehl led all players on the glass with nine rebounds.
