No. 4 UW-Whitewater Downs UW-Stout, Finishes 23-2 for Regular Season

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team concluded their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season with a 65-56 win over UW-Stout. 
 

The Warhawks (23-2 overall, 13-1 WIAC) clinched the WIAC regular season title on Wednesday, securing a first-round bye in the WIAC Tournament starting next week. 
 

Senior Becky Raeder (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls)led the team with 19 points, freshman Aleah Grundahl(DeForest, Wis./DeForest) totaled 10 points and seven rebounds, junior Johanna Taylor (Wauwatosa, Wis./East)tallied nine points and rebounds and junior Rebekah Schumacher (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) registered nine points. 
 

Schumacher opened up the game with back-to-back 3-pointers followed by a layup from junior Veronica Kieres (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) to give the Warhawks an eight-point advantage. 
 

The team led by as many as 12 points after a layup from Raeder with 4:39 to play in the first. But, the Blue Devils (15-10, 6-8) countered by holding UW-W scoreless and tallying 11 points through the end of the quarter. 
 

The Warhawks found an 8-0 run in the second quarter, with 3-pointers from Raeder and junior Adriana Green (Racine, Wis./Horlick) and a layup from sophomore Yssa Sto. Domingo (Streamwood, Ill./St. Edward). The team led 36-25 entering halftime. 

 

Schumacher hit her third 3-pointer of the game about halfway through the third to end UW-W's three-minute long scoring drought. The last few minutes of the quarter went back and forth as the team continued to hold onto a 48-39 lead heading into the final 10 minutes. 

 

The Blue Devils tightened the score to five points in the beginning of the fourth, before the Warhawks began to run up their score by as many as 15 points in the remainder of the game. 

 

UW-Whitewater hosts one of the WIAC Championship Semifinal games next week. They will play the lowest remaining seed after Tuesday's matchups on Thursday at 7 p.m.
