Baruch Finishes Regular Season at Staten Island, Next Host York on Saturday in CUNYAC QF

The Baruch College Bearcats lost 82-56 to the Dolphins from the College of Staten Island on Tuesday night in Staten Island, New York.

The Bearcats and Dolphins were playing for the final time in a women's basketball contest after a long history that dates back to the 1980s.

The Dolphins are transitioning to the NCAA Division II level and will be moving to their new home in the East Coast Conference (E.C.C.) next season.

The Bearcats will next turn their attention to the CUNYAC Championship Tournament and will host the Cardinals of York College on Saturday in a quarterfinal round playoff. A finalized schedule of the tournament will be announced on Wednesday.

The host Dolphins shot 10-of-23 from beyond the arc and jumped out to a 19-12 lead after the first quarter for the home win.

Staten Island native Melinda Spahiu led the Bearcats with 19 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Nia Dawson had 13 points and Daniela Zirpolo 12.

Kristina Arvelo was tops for the Dolphins with 17 points.
