Big Fourth Quarter For Farmingdale State Sinks Yeshiva

NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking Skyline loss to Farmingdale State College, 78-70, at the ARC Arena on Saturday evening. The Maccabees drop to 7-16 overall and 4-14 in Skyline play, while the Rams advance to 9-13 for the season and 7-11 against league competition.

The Maccabees had a 10-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Rams began the final period of regulation time with a 21-3 run to take the lead for good and complete the come-from-behind victory.

Leading the way for the Maccabees was senior forward Tehilla Teigman, who produced her 16th double-double of the season with 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jessie Orgel tallied a career-best 19 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the field and 5-for-8 from 3-point range, while grabbing three rebounds and forcing a pair of steals. Freshman guard Yuval Nitzan generated 11 points, four steals, three rebounds, and just as many assists.

Yeshiva got off to a quick start, as a 3-point field goal by senior guard Chana Boltax gave the Maccabees a 12-6 advantage with 4:57 remaining in the opening period. The Rams countered with 10 unanswered points to jump out to a 16-12 lead. Yeshiva finished the quarter strong with eight consecutive points of its own, capped off by a shot by Nitzan from downtown with three seconds left to give the Macs a 20-16 benefit after 10 minutes of play.

The Maccabees' momentum continued in the second quarter, scoring the first 11 points of the period to take a commanding 31-16 hold. Teigman capped off Yeshiva's overall 19-0 run by converting a layup, while being fouled. She added the free throw to complete the traditional three-point play and put Yeshiva up by 15, with 4:50 left to play in the half. During Yeshiva's run of 19 unanswered points, the Rams were held scoreless for 8:16. FSC was able to shrink its deficit to eight, at 35-27, before the end of the half and that would be the score after 20 minutes of play.

The Maccabees executed another rally, during the third quarter, as a layup by junior forward Lindsay Brandwein capped off a 6-0 YU run to give the home team its largest lead of the game, at 53-35, with 5:19 to go. However, Farmingdale State began to turn the tide in its favor by outscoring Yeshiva 13-5 in the final 5:02 of the quarter to shrink YU's advantage to 58-48 heading into the final period of regulation time.

Farmingdale's momentum carried into the fourth, as three consecutive 3-point field goals by junior guard Jami Cardenas highlighted a 21-3 run to start the stanza and give the visiting team the lead, 69-61. Senior guard Alexis Antonacci put the stamp on FSC's rally with a 3-point field goal of her own. Yeshiva managed to pull to within six on a couple of occasions but could not get any closer as Farmingdale State went on to earn the come-from-behind Skyline win by a score of 78-70.

For the Maccabees, senior guard Adina Rosenberg netted nine points and brought down six boards. Sophomore forward Mahlia Leventhal clutched nine rebounds to go along with two points, while Brandwein had a solid game with eight points and five rebounds.

For the Rams, Cardenas produced 22 points, including 7-for-12 shooting from the field and 6-for-10 from beyond the arc, while grabbing five rebounds.

It was Senior Night and Yeshiva University celebrated its six graduating seniors, Ellie ParkerChana WeinbergLeah Shulman, Boltax, Teigman, and Rosenberg with a ceremony prior to tip-off. These six individuals each played a key role in Yeshiva increasing its season win total in each of the three seasons they have played on the team.

Yeshiva will travel to Long Island on Tuesday, for a Skyline Conference matchup at the College at Old Westbury. Tip-off at the Clark Athletic Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
