Sewanee Women’s Basketball Drops Regular Season Finale

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Sewanee women's basketball team suffered a 70-52 defeat to the hands of Centre College in the regular season finale on Saturday from Alumni Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee rallied from an early 7-3 deficit to even the score at eight points apiece with four minutes left in the opening quarter.

-However, the Colonels knocked down two 3-pointers by Kylee Murray and Madison Marcum to put the home team up six points with 90 seconds left in the opening quarter.

-The Tigers made it a one-point affair at the end of the first quarter, 14-13 thanks to a Lakeisha Phillips layup and a last-second triple by Bella Bombassi.

-The visitors rallied from a 21-13 deficit with eight minutes left in the period thanks to an 8-2 run in about a 3:30 span. However, the Tigers still trailed, 23-21.

-Centre was able to maintain its lead headed into the locker room, 35-27, and the home team put the contest away in the third quarter. The hosts were able to push their lead to 10 points and more in the period.

-After an Ellie Treanton launched a perfect 3-pointer to make it a 48-38 contest with three minutes left in the period, the Colonels finished the quarter on an 8-3 run to lead 56-41 at the end of the third quarter.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ellie Treanton was the only Tiger in double figures with 13 points, while Bella Bombassi and Allison Hitchock totaled nine points each.

-Lakeisha Phillips added seven points and rebounds each in 24 minutes off the bench.

CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Kat Wilson led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting, while Mikayla Fee contributed 11 points and eight boards.

UP NEXT
