Wildcats Down Wolves in Women’s Basketball

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on the road on Wednesday at Cazenovia College 75-62 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference matchup.

Sydney Bloom (Penn Yan, N.Y. / Penn Yan Academy) and Meaghan McGwin (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) each led Keuka College (8-9, 4-6 NEAC) with 18 points. It set a new career-best for both Bloom and McGwin. Riley Record (Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) was also in double-figures with 10 points for the Wolves.

Cazenovia College 75 vs. Keuka College 62

Meaghan McGwin scored the opening bucket for the Wolves, but the Wildcats would respond with 11 straight to build a lead. After Keuka ended the run, the Green and Gold closed the quarter with 10 unanswered to leave the game tied at 15-15 after one.

Keuka College scored the first six of the second to build a 21-15 lead. It would prove to be Keuka's largest lead of the game. The Wildcats would fight back and regain the lead in the final minutes. Cazenovia led 32-28 at the break.

Cazenovia built a six-point lead of their own in the third, but Keuka erased that to take the lead themselves at 39-38. The Wolves would hold the lead in the quarter until the final minute when the Wildcats scored seven unanswered to take a 52-50 lead into the final quarter.

The Wildcats would extend their lead in the fourth. Keuka would fight to stay in the game, but Cazenovia took advantage of the free throw line. Cazenovia went 12-16 from the line in the final quarter while the Wolves scored just 12 points in the frame. Cazenovia continued onto the 75-62 victory.

  • Wednesday was just the tenth loss for Keuka College to Cazenovia College in the 56-game series. The Wolves had a nine-game winning streak against Cazenovia snapped
  • The 13-point loss was the largest by Keuka ever against Cazenovia
  • The difference in the game was the free throw line. The two teams made the same amount of field goals, 24, and the same amount of three-pointers, five. However, Cazenovia outscored Keuka 22-9 (+13) from the free throw line
  • Riley Record led the Wolves with eight rebounds
  • Record also set a new personal-best on Wednesday for points in a season and surpassed 500 points for her career
