The Millikin women's basketball team picked up an important College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) road win 66-59 at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin on January 18.
Down 40-33 at halftime, the Big Blue used a second half rally to pull out the victory. Millikin held the Lady Reds without a field goal for almost a nine minute stretch in the third and fourth quarters to spur the comeback. The Big Blue outscored Carthage 16-9 in the third quarter and 17-10 in the fourth quarter.
With the game tied 49-49 after three quarters, Millikin used a 5-0 run to open up a lead. Abby Ratsch's third three-pointer of the game and a Jordan Hildebrand basketball made it 54-49 with six minutes left to play.
Hildebrand led Millikin with 17 points and eight rebounds. Ratsch had a double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Ratsch was 0-1 from three-point range on the season heading into the Carthage game. Ratsch made two of her first three three-point shots before ending the game going 3-7 from beyond the arc. Bailey Coffman finished with 15 points including 13 points in the first half with three three-pointers.
Autum Kalis led Carthage with 17 points with Kaley Coshun adding 14.
Millikin shot 37 percent (23-62) from the field and went 7-23 (30 percent) from three-point range. The Big Blue left points at the free throw line going 13-22. Carthage was limited to 33 percent (19-57) from the field. The Lady Reds went 2-11 from the field in the third quarter and 3-17 in the fourth quarter. Carthage made 16-19 from the free throw line. The Big Blue won the rebounding battle 46-35.
Millikin improves to 11-5, 4-3 while Carthage goes to 8-8, 3-4.
The Big Blue host Elmhurst College on Wednesday, January 22 at 7 p.m.
